About Paris in 20 Walks

Welcome to Paris in 20 Walks, which provides you with an original walk for each arrondissement of Paris!

As many would agree, Paris is a city best experienced on foot. After all, it is the home of the ‘flaneur’, a literary type from the 19th century, who strolled the streets of Paris.

The Paris in 20 Walks website was originally created as a personal resource to provide ideas and information to further explore Paris. As a navigationally challenged traveller, it was also driven by a desire to explore Paris with a greater degree of confidence.

No other city has had as much written about it as Paris. There are many books, blogs, websites, and tourist resources that provide the traveller with a litany of travel information. My aim here, therefore, is not to reinvent the wheel but rather to fill a perceived gap.  By providing a dedicated walk for each of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, my goal is to help discover the atmosphere of each arrondissement, the distinctions between them, and at the same time, to allow the totality of Paris to be drawn together in a more coherent way.

To do so, I have created and provided links to walking maps in both Footpath Maps and Google Maps. The Footpath Maps can also be used to provide turn-by-turn navigation instructions as you walk using your phone or Apple Watch.

The sights are divided between ‘best streets’, ‘gardens’, ‘museums/theatres’, ‘churches’, ‘other landmarks’, ‘cafes/restaurants’, and ‘markets/shops.’ I have also linked my photo blog, sorted by arrondissement, to help give you a flavour of some of the things you will see or can further explore.

If the walks are too long or too many, they can easily be broken up and used in a way that suits your preferences and time frame. I hope that Paris in 20 Walks will be a resource that you can keep coming back to when you visit Paris.

I hope that your walks in Paris provide you with as much pleasure and satisfaction as they have provided me!
